Softball Opens Nine-Game Homestand Against UNC Wilmington This Weekend

Philadelphia - Fresh off a pair of convicing victories at Lafayette on Wednesday, Drexel Softball will host the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington (6-25, 1-5) in a three-game conference series this weekend at Drexel Field. The Dragons improved to 10-13 on the season after a sweep of the Leopards on the road and Drexel will by looking to improve on its 1-5 conference mark. The series opens with an 11:00 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 and wraps up with a single game at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Led by a strong overall performance offensively, Drexel defeated Lafayette 8-0 in game one and 13-7 in the nightcap on Wednesday. Senior Ashley Botelho matched Kelli Griffith's 17-year-old career RBI record, of 99, when she drove in her 10th run of the season in the opener. Junior Kelly Downes combined to go 5-for-9 in the series and smacked her third home run of the season. Hillary Allen threw a two-hit gem in game one and also got the win in game two after pitching an effective three and two-thirds innings in relief of Katrina Gaudier.
The Seahawks enter the weekend in search of their first win on an eight-game road swing. They were swept by Costal Carolina in a midweek doubleheader despite solid performances by Morgan Walters and Ashley Shingleton. Walters is the team's to batter with a .391 average on the season. The Seahawks predominantly employ a three-pitcher rotation with Samme Lisowsky, Amanda Aditays and Amanda Davenport carrying the bulk of load from the circle. Lisowsky is responsible for three of the Seahawks' six wins this season and she leads the team in innings pitched and strikeouts.
Drexel leads the all-time series against UNC Wilmington 12-10, and the Dragons have won seven of their last eight games against the team where Head Coach Kim Camara was formerly an assistant. The Dragons won two of three in Wilmington last season and swept the Seahawks in their last trip to Philadelphia in 2008.
Parking and admission are free at the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton Ave. Drexel Field is located in the north west corner of the complex. On Sunday fans will be treated to a special guest public address announcer, as Dan Baker, voice of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles and the radio voice of Drexel Men's Basketball, will take the microphone to announce the third game of the series. Sunday is also Girl Scout Day at Drexel Field. The Dragons will welcome a number of girl scouts from Philadelphia and New Jersey to take the field during the National Anthem and meet the team following the game.
