Philadelphia - The Delaware Blue Hens are in town this afternoon to help Drexel close out its regular-season tennis slate with a dual match at 2:00 p.m. on the Drexel Courts. The Dragons are looking to gain some traction heading into the CAA Tournament next week and would like to send seniors Zineb Hilali and Lara Hamad off with a win on their Senior Day.
In the women's tennis match today, Delaware (10-4) will put its 3-3 CAA record on the line against the Dragons (8-5, 2-2 CAA). The Hens have beaten Towson, Hofstra and George Mason in league play. Led by Samantha Carnall at first singles, who recently set the school's single-season wins record with her 26th win, Delaware features four players with 20 or more singles victories this season. On the doubles side Elena Berry and Montse Ripoll are 14-2 at first doubles on the year.
The Drexel women are coming off a 4-1 loss to George Mason on Wednesday. Gozde Unkaya's second singles victory was the lone point of the match for Drexel in a frustrating loss to the Patriots. The junior will be looking for her 10th win of the season, to join sophomore Elise Leizerovich as the only Dragons in double figures in victories this year.
In the men's match Drexel will be going for its third straight win heading into conference play and looking to lock up its first winning record in regular-season play since the 2007-08 season. The Dragons (6-6, 2-2) took down George Mason 5-2 in its last match with wins from Mehdi Rhazali, Manu Bajpai, Bryan Nguyen and Jegnathan Srinivasan in singles play.
The Blue Hen men are 7-9 on the season and 2-5 in CAA play. They are led by Austin Longacre at first singles with a 15-8 overall record. Gokay Celik is 10-4 on the season at second singles. Courtney Scott and Chris Hinckler are the Blue Hens' winningest duo with a 13-5 mark on the season. Delaware has won two of its last three matches coming into the day and the Hens have also beaten Hofstra and George Mason in conference play this season.
Parking and admission are free at the Vidas Athletic Complex located on 43rd and Powelton Ave. in Philadelphia. Seniors Lara Hamad and Zineb Hilali will be recognized in a brief pre-match ceremony as part of Senior Day festivites.
