
Dragons Ground Seton Hall Pirates 8-2 in UMBC Dawg Pound Opener

Baltimore, Md. - After waiting out a number of delays and postponements due to rainy weather, Drexel made the most of dry conditions on Friday in an 8-2 win over Seton Hall (6-12). Hillary Allen went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and also recorded the pitching victory for Drexel (4-7).
Allen threw five and a third scoreless innings, allowing two hits with five walks and six strikeouts to improve to 3-2 on the season. Hannah Hill took the loss for Seton Hall after letting up three earned runs on three hits and five walks.
Laura Stagliano helped Drexel take an early lead by singling, stealing a base and coming in to score on a passed ball.
The Dragons hung a four on the board in the third inning. Katy Harrington stroked a 1-2 pitch to center for a two-run double, putting Drexel on top 3-0. Allen added another run with an RBI single and Devon Metcalf came in on a passed ball to give Drexel a 5-0 lead.
Drexel's lead swelled to 7-0 after five innings following an RBI single by Allen in the fourth and one in the fifth by Rachell Campbell.
Metcalf cracked her first homer of the season, turning on an inside screwball in the seventh inning to give the Dragons an 8-0 lead.
The Hall got its only runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh off of reliever Shyann Beach. Nicole Loewenstein's bases loaded double made it an 8-2 game. Beach settled herself to strikeout the next batter and induce a game-ending groundout.
The Dragons will take on UMBC, Niagara and Coppin State during the remainder of the weekend tournament.
