Philadelphia – Paige Collings breathed life into Drexel's offense with a solo home run in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie with La Salle and lead the Dragons to a 4-0 victory over their city rival in game one of a Tuesday twinbill. Hillary Allen held the Explorers off the board while striking out a career-high 10 batters in the victory. The contest was ended in the sixth inning due to heavy rain and the nightcap of the twinbill was canceled.
Drexel's win snaps a seven-game losing streak for the Dragons and is their fourth in the team's last six meetings with La Salle. Collings' home run was her seventh of the season, which leads the team and inches her closer to match the single-season record of eight which she set a year ago.
Allen turned in a sterling pitching performance to hold the Explorers scoreless while striking out a career-high 10 batters. She scattered five hits and two walks through six innings for her first complete-game shutout of the season.
A bases-loaded single by Allen in the top of the sixth inning added another run for her cause. Kelly Downes followed with a pinch-hit two-run double to give the Dragons a 4-0 lead.
DJ Guinn threw all six innings for the Explorers, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three Dragons.
