Philadelphia - Coming off an excellent all-around effort in a 4-0 victory at La Salle on Tuesday, the Dragons welcome Saint Joseph's to Drexel Field for a 3:00 p.m. softball game on Thursday. The Hawks (23-13) are flying high this season and enter the game winners of five of their last seven games. Drexel (9-20) is looking to start a streak of a different kind after snaping a seven-game slide with the shutout win at La Salle. Fans can follow the game with live stats and streaming video at Drexel Game Central.
Hillary Allen turned in her sharpest outing of the year on Tuesday. The junior hurler threw a complete-game shutout against the Explorers while striking out a career-high 10 batters. She scattered five hits and two walks while earning her sixth victory of the season.
Paige Collings maintained the form that has led Drexel at the plate this season, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run that sparked the Dragons' offense. Kelly Downes came off the bench to drive in a pair of runs and sophomore Hanna Parrish returned to the lineup after taking a hiatus due to injury.
The Hawks are in the midst of an excellent season with a 7-3 mark in conference play and a 7-5 record in road games. Saint Joseph's dropped games to a quality Fordham team and at Drexel's CAA rival Delaware in its last two contests, however.
Big Bats: The Hawks feature a potent foursome of bats at the top of their lineup led by Dana Parks, who is batting .415 on the season and leads the team with 14 stolen bases as the lead-off hitter. Monica Aguilar is hitting .379 with five homers and a team-leading 30 RBIs. Laura Cardone, another speedster, its hitting .310 with seven stolen bases. Shannon Kramer has driven in 23 runs and is hitting .303 on the season.
Ace of the Staff: Erin Gallagher is one of the top pitchers in the A-10 this season. She has an 18-7 overall record with a stingy 1.40 ERA. She has 158 strikeouts through 160 innings on the rubber and opponents are hitting just .177 against her this season. The Hawks' No. 2 starter is sophomore Taryn Ashway. She is 3-6 on the season with a 2.91 ERA. She has struck out 44 batters in 53 innings of work.
