Philadelphia - In the midst of a four-game losing streak and looking to turn their conference season around, the Dragons (8-17, 1-5 CAA) host the Georgia State Panthers (21-16, 5-1) in a three-game softball series this weekend at Drexel Field. Opening pitch for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 11:00 a.m. Fans can follow all the action via livestats on Drexel Game Central.
The Dragons mounted furious rallies in the final innings of both games, but fell to the Gaels by frustrating one-run margins in both contests. After winning the opening game against Towson 5-1 last weekend, the Dragons lost the last two games of the three-game set in 7-0 shutouts.
Georgia State enters the weekend series on a five-game winning streak. The Panthers swept UNC Wilmington in CAA play last weekend and took both ends of a mid-week twinbill against Furman. Georgia State is tied with James Madison for second place in the conference standings at 5-1 on the season. Lauren Jones is the Panthers' top batter with a .308 batting average, seven home runs and 24 RBIs. McCall Langford is the ace of the Georgia State staff, with a stingy 1.81 ERA and an 8-8 record. Langford already has a no-hitter to her credit this season, against Towson on opening weekend of conference play.
The Dragons are 4-17 all-time against Georgia State and have lost four straight to the Panthers. Drexel's only series win against the Panthers was in 2007 when the Dragons took both games in the Saturday doubleheader before being rained out on Sunday.
