9/10/2011 9:08:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Rutgers scored the first two goals of the game and added an insurance goal late to defeat the Drexel men's soccer team, 3-1. Freshman John Grosh had Drexel's only goal in the game, the first of his career.
Rutgers' (3-1) Juan Pablo Correa opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the game. Ibrahim Kamara was credited with the assist on a give-and-go on what proved to be the only Scarlet Knight shot on goal in the first half. Drexel (0-3) outshot Rutgers, 4-3, in the opening 45 minutes. Drexel had three corners but was unable to convert.
Early in the second half, Nate Bordeau gave the Scarlet Knights a two-goal cushion. His goal in the 53rd minute was again assisted by Kamara. The match became a little chippy as both teams picked up yellow cards in the minutes following the second goal. Drexel was dealt a difficult blow in the 63rd minute when Malcolm LeBourne was given a red card, leaving the Dragons short a man the rest of the match.
The Dragnos rallied and Grosh got the Dragons on the board for the first time in the game and for the first time this season. Grosh headed an Eric Lynch feed into the net in the games' 76th minute. It would be as close as the Dragons would come. The Scarlet Knights iced the game with a goal with three minutes left to make the final tally, 3-1.
The Dragons aim for their first win of the season in their home-opener on Wednesday night. Drexel hosts Lafayette at Vidas Field at 7 p.m.
