PHILADELPHIA - At long last, the Drexel men's soccer team will play its first home match on Wednesday evening when they welcome Lafayette to Vidas Field at 7:00 p.m. The Dragons will be in search of their first victory of the season when they host the Leopards, who have won two in a row and are 3-1-1 overall on the young season.
Drexel opened its season with three straight on the road, falling at Villanova, sixth-ranked Creighton, and Rutgers. Most recently was the 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, with freshman John Grosh providing the Dragons' offense with his first career goal. The header off a feed from Eric Lynch pulled Drexel within a goal in the game's 76th minute, but Rutgers would hang on and add an insurance tally to put the game away late.
Wednesday's game is the first at Vidas Field this season for Drexel, which enjoyed a considerable home field advantage last season. The Dragons went 5-3-0 at home in 2010, winning just twice away from Vidas.
Lafayette comes into Wednesday's game 3-1-1, most recently defeating Mount St. Mary's and La Salle by identical 1-0 scores in the 2011 Lafayette Puma Soccer Classic. The Leopards also boast a 2-1 triumph over Rider in their season opener, while their lone defeat of the season was 1-0 at the hands of Temple. Overall, Drexel is 4-7-1 all-time against the Leopards.
