BOX SCORE
PHILADELPHIA - It looked like the Drexel men's soccer team might be headed for its second consecutive scoreless draw late in the second half against Bucknell on Wednesday night, but then two pivotal breaks went the way of the Bison as they scored a late goal to knock off the Dragons, 1-0.
After much of the game passed without serious offensive threats from either side, the Dragons found themselves starting to crack the Bucknell defense midway through the second half. Then, in the game's 79th minute, freshman Ridge Robinson fought through a crowd near the goal to push a shot over the arms of Bucknell keeper Tommy Caso. Unfortunately, the shot was just a tad too high, as it ticked off the crossbar and was punched out of the goal mouth.
Less than five minutes later, the Bison were on the attack, and earned a free kick from about 40 yards out. CK Kumah sent it in, and Mayowa Alli emerged from a scrum with the ball in front of a largely open net, sending it in for his sixth score of the season and the lone goal of Wednesday night's game.
Drexel finished with six shots, three of which tested Caso. They had just one shot in the first half, a sliding attempt by Mark Donohue who could not elude a charging Caso as he got the shot off.
The Dragons will open conference play on Saturday afternoon when they continue a three-game homestand by hosting William & Mary. The game is set to kick off at 4:00 p.m. at Vidas Field.
