Philadelphia – The 18th-ranked Drexel field hockey team hits the road for the first time this season. The Dragons will take on 15th-ranked Duke on Sunday, September 4 at 11:30 a.m. on the University of Delaware's campus. Drexel enters the contest with a 3-0 record after defeating Columbia, 5-3, on Friday night.
Freshman Margaux Lourtie scored her first career goal that broke a scoreless tie in the opening half against Columbia. Lourtie went on to score two more goals in the second half and recorded her first career hat trick. Teammate Christina Conrad set a single-game high with two assists, while freshman goalkeeper Katie Francis made her first career stop for Drexel. Francis finished with three saves in just 16 minutes of play.
Duke leads the all-time series 4-1. Last year, the Blue Devils defeated the Dragons, 2-1, in overtime. Each team scored in the first half, but Duke was able to record the game-winner after 77 minutes of evenly-matched play. The Blue Devils outshout Drexel, 17-11, and held a slim 7-6 edge in penalty corners.
No. 15 Duke opened up the 2011 season on the road and upset No. 6 Ohio State, 3-2, in overtime last Friday. Duke's Devon Gagliardi scored the game-winning goal with 21 seconds left in the extra period. The Blue Devils will face 13 opponents, including Drexel, this season who are either ranked or receiving votes in the initial poll.
