PHILADELPHIA - Drexel women's basketball head coach Denise Dillon is in her tenth year as the leader of the Dragons. All told, she has been at Drexel for 13 season, but her impact is still being felt on the other side of town at Villanova, her alma mater and the school at which she starred for four years as a Big Five Hall of Fame player. Now, that school is honoring her with induction into its Varsity Club Hall of Fame. Dillon joins nine other inductees in this year's class.
A four-year letterwinner from 1992-96, Dillon earned BIG EAST postseason honors every season she spent with the Wildcats. An All-Rookie choice in 1993, she was a second team All-BIG EAST selection in 1994 and 1996 and received first team accolades in 1995. Three times, Dillon earned first team All-Big Five distinction.
Dillon finished her playing career with 1,355 points, 677 rebounds, 228 assists and 193 steals. She ranks eighth in Villanova history in points and rebounds, and is one of only four players in school history with at least 1,300 points, 600 rebounds and 200 assists. Villanova won 68 games with a .643 winning percentage during her career, including a 21-7 mark in her senior season of 1995-96.
The Villanova Varsity Club Hall of Fame is the third Hall of Fame to induct Dillon as a member. The Big Five honored her in 2004 and her native Delaware County enshrined her in the Delaware County Athletics Hall of Fame earlier in 2012. Now in her tenth season with the Dragons, Dillon is the winningest coach in Drexel women's basketball's Division I history, coming into Friday's game with American sporting a 158-127 record.
