Women's Lacrosse Tops Saint Joseph's, 18-10, on Wednesday Night

Philadelphia – The Drexel women's lacrosse team dominated play in the 18-10 win over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night at Vidas Field. Drexel outshot the Hawks, 24-17, and had 10 different players put points on the board. The Dragons also went 4-7 in free-position shots and improved their draw controls, winning 11-of-18 in the first half. The Dragons are now 2-0 overall.
Sophomore midfielder Amanda Norcini led the team with four goals, tying her season high against the Hawks. Teammate Kelly Palace also tied her season-high in goals. Junior midfielder Kristin Kopenhaver set a new season-high with two goals. Alyse Maiden, Kelli Joran, Lindsey Kovar and Charlotte Wood all recorded two goals and one assist for three points. Defensively, Kristin Kopenhaver had a season-high four draw controls, while Julia Lanzetta set a new season-mark with four caused turnovers.
Thirty-seconds into the first half, Lindsey Kovar received the ball from Kelli Joran and put the ball past Saint Joseph's Alisha Aquilino to give the Dragons an early 1-0 lead. At 27:01, Amanda Norcini scored a free-position goal after Lindsey Kovar caused a Saint Joseph's turnover. Two minutes later, Norcini knocked in another goal, but the Hawk's Grace Winn quickly cut the lead to two, 3-1. Jaclyn Klunder and Alissa Watts fired back with two more goals. Saint Joseph's Grace Dinn fed a pass to Nora McGuire for a Hawk's goal, 5-2. Drexel went on a six-goal spurt and led 13-4 at half.
Drexel's Teresha Bradley and Saint Joseph's Nora McGeever both made their collegiate debuts in the cage at the start of the second half. The Hawks put immediate pressure on the Dragons' defense and scored three goals in the beginning of the half. Saint Joseph's Grace Dinn brought the game to within six points, 13-7. At 20:28, Drexel went on a four-goal run. Despite the visiting Hawk's six second-half goals, the Dragons held onto the lead until time expired.
Like Bradley, fellow freshmen Joelle Hartke and Jocelyn Quaile saw action for the first time at Drexel. Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Santandrea earned the win and made one save. Teammate Teresha Bradley set a season-high with three saves.
