GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel softball team put together a complete performance on Wednesday afternoon, as they swept a doubleheader from Bucknell with strong pitching, timely and powerful hitting, and solid defense. The Dragons won both games by 7-2 scores. Hillary Allen and Shelby Taylor each pitched complete games, with Taylor tossing a one-hitter and striking out 11 in the second contest. Jenn Reading homered twice in the first game, her second multi-home run contest in three games.
Drexel (12-13) also got home runs from Paige Collings and Maddison Timoteo. Collings is now one home run and six runs batted in shy of former teammate Ashley Botelho's all-time career records at Drexel.
The Dragons fell behind early in the first game, as Bucknell mounted a two-out rally to score a run in the top of the first. The Dragons knotted things up in the second, however, when Jenn Reading led off with a drive to left-center field, her sixth home run of the season.
In the third, Collings got a one-out single through the hole on the left side. With her on first, Reading stepped up and roped a drive to the opposite field. Her line drive cleared the right-center field fence, her team-best seventh home run of the season to give Drexel a 3-1 lead.
Drexel broke the game wide open in the fourth, scoring three unearned runs after the Bison had crept back within a run in the top of the inning. Caprice DeMirjian reached on an error to lead the frame off. Comfort Ahonkhai followed by beating out a bunt hit. After two outs including an RBI groundout by Devon Metcalf, Collings launched her fourth home run of the year to make it 6-1.
The Dragons added an insurance run in the sixth when DeMirjian and Hanna Parrish each tripled, the latter an RBI three-bagger that brought DeMirjian home.
The triple was the first of three on the day for Parrish, who hit two in the second game, tying a Drexel single-game record. She scored after each as Drexel built a 2-0 early lead in the second game.
It moved to 3-0 in the fourth inning, when Maddison Timoteo led off with a towering shot to left-center field. There was no doubt about it as the blast was TImoteo's third home run of the season. She now has nine runs batted in.
The story of the second game was Shelby Taylor, who struck out eight of the first ten batters she faced through the first three innings. Taylor did not allow a hit until Bucknell's Nikki SIlva connected for a solo home run with two outs in the fifth inning. That would be the Bison's only hit of the game. The Bison added a second run in the sixth when Erin Cox walked and came around to score an unearned run on a passed ball.
Sending ten batters to the plate, Drexel broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits. They took advantage of an error, a hit by pitch and a walk in the inning.
Drexel will be back in action on Thursday, heading down I-95 for a visit to George Washington for a single game. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
