BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON – The Drexel softball team won its third-straight game and fourth in five games on Thursday, as they made the short trip down I-95 to George Washington and came away with a 3-0 victory. Shelby Taylor pitched her second gem in as many days, going the distance for a four-hit shutout. The Dragons evened their record at 13-13 with the victory.
As she was yesterday, Hanna Parrish acted as a catalyst at the top of the Drexel batting order again on Thursday. In the first inning, Parrish led off with a single right back over the pitcher's head and into center field. She stole second, then scored on a base hit to left by Jenn Reading. In the second, her speed disrupted the Colonials' defense enough to cause an errant throw by the George Washington third baseman, allowing Caprice DeMirjian to score after DeMirjian had reached on an error earlier in the inning.
In the third inning, the Dragons' other red-hot hitter Jenn Reading led off with a single poked through the left side of the infield. Maddison Timoteo followed, drilling a double to the wall in right-center field, moving Reading around to third. She scored moments later when Slyvia Llamas brought her home with a sacrifice fly to center field.
That was all Taylor would need. One day after one-hitting Bucknell on 11 strikeouts, Taylor scattered four hits over seven innings while striking out five to give Drexel its third road victory of the year. She improved her record to 6-6 with the victory, adding a single in three at bats at the plate.
Drexel will now bring its three-game winning streak on the road to Hofstra this weekend. They will play a doubleheader against the Pride on Saturday beginning at noon, with a single game to wrap up the series on Sunday, also at noon. Hofstra opened the CAA schedule 3-0 last weekend, the only league team to do so.
