GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
ATLANTA - Devon Metcalf hit a dramatic, game-tying home run in the seventh inning of the first game of a doubleheader at Georgia State, but the Drexel softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 3-2 in extra innings and 8-0. Paige Collings added three hits in the first game for Drexel, but they could not break through as Georgia State got both victories.
The Dragons took a quick 1-0 lead in the first game. Metcalf reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning, moving around to third when Collings roped a double to left field. After Jenn Reading was intentionally walked, starting pitcher Hillary Allen hit a comebacker that the Panthers' pitcher mishandled, allowing Metcalf to scamper home as everyone was safe. Georgia State got out of the inning without any further damage, however, but Drexel held an early 1-0 lead.
The Panthers scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 2-1 lead. In the top of the seventh, however, Metcalf led off and wasted little time, launching her third home run of the season up and out to left field, knotting the score at two.
The score remained that way through the seventh and top of the eighth. Then, leading off the bottom of the eighth, Brenna Morrissey connected with an Allen delivering and knocked a home run to left, sending the Panthers off with a walk-off 3-2 victory.
In the second game, Georgia State scored four unearned runs in the second inning and did not look back, clinching an 8-0 win in five frames. McCall Langford gave up just three hits for the Panthers, holding Drexel without a run as Georgia State earned the doubleheader sweep.
Drexel and Georgia State will conclude their series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
