Women's Lacrosse Falls to James Madison, 15-8, on Sunday

Harrisonburg, Va. – The Drexel women's lacrosse team fell to James Madison, 15-8, on Sunday afternoon at Bridgeforth Stadium. Junior Kelli Joran led the attack with four goals tying her career high. The Dukes' outshot the Drexel, 36-21, and won 17 draw controls to the Dragons' eight. Drexel dropped to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. James Madison improved to 3-0 in conference play.
With just under two minutes into the first half, senior attacker Charlotte Wood scored for the Dragons after a draw control win by freshman Jocelyn Quaile. The Dukes' Monica Zabel passed the ball to Amy Roguski for a quick goal to tie the game, 1-1. At 27:04, Zabel scored an unassisted goal to take the lead. Roguski looked to start a rally, but shot wide past goalkeeper Amanda Santandrea. The Dragons were then able pushed down the field and set up Kristen Kopenhaver for an unassisted goal, 2-2.
At 19:06 remaining in the opening half, James Madison's Caitlin McHugh scored from Casey Ancarrow's pass. Drexel's Kelli Joran tied the game, 3-3, after receiving a pass from Wood. James Madison called a timeout following the Dragons' goal and went on to score three goals extending the game to the largest lead with three, 6-3. With 3:30 left before intermission, Wood found Joran again to close the deficit to two. Joran scored in the last 20 seconds of the first half, 6-5.
Drexel's Alyse Maiden opened up the second half with an unassisted goal to tie the game, 6-6. At 26:36, James Madison's Cally Chakrian won the next draw control, which allowed the Dukes to push into the attacking end. Monica Zabel scored an unassisted goal to put James Madison back on top, 7-6. The Dukes went on to score three more goals until Alissa Watts tallied a goal for the Dragons. Drexel looked to take back the momentum, but James Madison went on a five-goal spurt and held on to the lead until the game clock expired.
Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Santandrea had seven saves after 48:58 minutes in goal, while teammate Teresha Bradley saw action for the last 11:02 of play. Santandrea now has 66 saves on the season. Opposing goalkeeper Schylar Healy had four saves.
The Drexel women's lacrosse team travels to Delaware on Friday, April 13 before hosting Towson on Sunday, April 15.
