Women's Lacrosse Season Comes to an End Against Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — The Drexel women's lacrosse season came to an end Saturday as the Dragon fell to Campbell, 14-12. DU retook the lead late in the third quarter, but the Camels responded with a 5-2 run down the stretch to secure the win. Kate Quinn and Annie Madden each recorded a hat trick, as Drexel finishes the season with a 5-11 record.
The Dragons opened the game with a strong 3-0 run. Annie Madden started the scoring with a goal of her own, followed by Elena Bontatibus nearly a minute later. Madden added her second goal on a player-up opportunity, finishing a pass from Mary Claire Heubeck. Campbell ended the quarter with a pair of goals to trail by one.
Drexel doubled its lead when Ellie Wall set up Kate Quinn at the 13:35 mark. Campbell responded to tie the game as Drew Watkins recorded a pair. The Dragons regained the lead on a free-position goal from Bea Buckley, but Campbell answered with a goal of its own. Drexel added another before the Camels closed the half with two goals in the final 2:24 to take their first lead of the day.
The Dragons outscored Campbell 4–2 to take a 10–9 lead after the third quarter. Annie Madden sparked the run, recording her fourth hat trick of the season with a free-position goal to tie the game. Both teams combined for five goals in the final 3:35 of the period. Campbell briefly regained the lead, but Kate Quinn responded just 23 seconds later. After another Campbell goal, Drexel closed the quarter on a 2–0 run to head into the fourth with the momentum.
