Box Score
Waipahu, Oahu – Freshman Civanni Moss scored a pair of goals, including the tying goal with 11.7 seconds left as Drexel tied the University of Hawai'I, 3-3, at Waipiu Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Drexel is now 3-1-1 this season and remained unbeaten in its last four matches.
Drexel trailed 3-2 in the final minute, but was awarded a free kick as the clock ticked under 20 seconds to play in regulation. Jourdan Halasz booted a ball into the Rainbow Wahine (3-1-1) zone. The hosts could not clear, and, after the ball was deflected by Kanani Taaca, Moss found the ball behind the Rainbow keeper and put in into the empty net to tie the match.
The Rainbow Wahine trailed 2-0 at the end of the first half, but played a more inspired second half and scored three straight goals to take the lead. They broke their scoring drought with a goal in the 60th minute. Carly Mottram converted a feed from Chelsea Miyake. She beat Eve Badana in the low left corner to trim the lead to just a goal. It appeared for a minute that Drexel would get its two-goal lead back. The Dragons had a few opportunities, none better than one by Gabby Dixon with 23 minutes left. She broke in past the defense, but was foiled by a diving Kanani Taaca. Moments later, the Hawai'i scored the equalizer after a free kick. McKenzie McGoldrick tied it in the 70th minute.
Just 10 minutes later Hawai'I took the lead for the only time in the game. Drexel attempted to clear, but Alexis Colacchio intercepted and broke in alone in the 81st minute. She put the ball into the right side of the net as the Rainbow Wahine came all the way back to tie it. The score remained that way until Moss' heroics evened the contest.
Drexel opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Alex Vazquez picked up a loose ball just outside of the top of the box, turned and fired a left-footed shot into the upper left corner to make it a 1-0 game. It was the first goal of the season for the senior from Belle Mead, N.J.
Late in the first half, the Dragons quieted the crowd with their second goal of the stanza. Sam Greenfield made a nice move past a Rainbow defender. She fed Gabby Dixon, whose initial shot was saved by Taaca, but the keeper could not gain possession. Moss broke in on the left side, and put home the rebound, for her first career tally.
Drexel plays its final game on Oahu this Sunday. The Dragons face Hawaii-Hilo beginning at 2 p.m. Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, which is 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
