HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Drexel men's soccer team suffered its first Colonial Athletic Association loss of the season on Saturday night as the Dragons fell at James Madison, 2-1. The loss ended a four-game conference unbeaten streak for the Dragons, who also ended a four-game road swing with the loss.
Nathan Page scored Drexel's goal in the 57th minute, giving the Dragons a temporary 1-0 lead, but the Dukes answered with goals in the 68th and 73rd minutes to grab their first conference win of the season.
After each team put one of their four shots on goal in the first half, the Dragons got on the board first nearly 12 minutes into the second half when leading scorer Nathan Page drilled an unassisted goal past James Madison goalkeeper Colin Newcity from 15 yards out. It was his fifth goal of the season as Page beat Newcity to the keeper's left to put Drexel on top.
With a second-half lead and no league losses on their ledger to date, the Dragons saw things start to go against them with 22:08 remaining in the game. It was then that James Madison's Tim Whitebread beat Drexel keeper Tyler Afflerbach from 22 yards out, finding the left corner of the net on a low shot. That tied the score, and the Dukes took a lead just over four minutes later when Josh Grant took a cross from Karel Manrau and headed it in from the middle of the box.
Drexel outshot the Dukes 9-7 in the second half, but could not slip another goal past Newcity as James Madison hung on for the victory.
The Dragons will now return home for the first time since October 12 as they host Hofstra for Senior Night on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
