Men's and Women's Tennis Split Match at Mason

FAIRFAX, Va - The men's and women's tennis teams split their match at Mason on Thursday. The men fell to the Patriots, 5-1, while the women emerged victorious with a, 4-0, decision.
Due to weather, the men's as well as the women's teams decided on including a 10-point tie-breaker instead of a full third set when matches are split. The men fought long and hard for the ultimate upset at George Mason. In singles positions No. 1 through No. 4, The Patriots bested the Dragons. The only win that came for Drexel was in the form of Xabier Saavedra. Saavedra defeated Mason's Aaron Capitel in a, 6-7, 6-3, 10-7, decision that landed the Dragons their only point of the match. The men currently hold a 6-4 overall record on the season.
On the women's side of play, Drexel dominated Mason in each position. The women managed to sweep positions No. 1 through No. 4, as Zeynep Mafa beat her opponent, 6-1, 6-0, while teammmate Pivonka outlasted Mason's No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-0. Marcela Rosales also picked up a win for the Dragons in a, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5, decision, and Emma Brook knocked down the Patriot's Ashley Delaney, 3-6, 6-0, 10-6. Alex Bell and Aysenil Orhon ended their matches unfinished, but Aysenil was in a, 6-1, 5-3, lead. The women improve to 9-4 on the season
The men will return to the court on Monday, April 1 at home against St. Peter's for a 12:00 p.m. match. Next for the women will be city rival St. Joseph's in a match on Thursday, April 4 scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
