Women's Lacrosse Concludes Regular Season with 12-10 Loss at Hofstra

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Drexel women's lacrosse team concluded the regular-season with a 12-10 loss at Hofstra on Saturday evening. The Dragons outscored the Pride, 7-4, in the second half, however were unable to retake the lead after a five-goal setback at the end of the first 30 minutes of play. Senior co-captain Kelli Joran scored her 100th career goal as Drexel secured the four seed in the upcoming 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. The squad went 4-3 in the conference and enters post-season play with an 11-6 overall record.
With just under three minutes into game, Kristin Kopenhaver scored off a pass from teammate Jessica Rudloff to give the Dragons an early 1-0 lead. In the following minutes, Hofstra's Casey Kellogg converted on a free-position attempt to even the score. The Pride went on a three-goal rally earning a 3-1 lead. At 17:59, Emily Duffey connected with Amanda Norcini, who fired the ball into the back of the cage to bring the score within one-point. Julia Riemer fueled Hofstra's attack with back-to-back goals, which led to another four-goal spurt by the Pride. Kopenhaver scored with an assist by Rudloff as the Dragons still trailed by four, 7-3. Hofstra's April Iannetta knocked in one-more goal in the final seconds of the first half.
Alyse Maiden opened up the second half with an unassisted goal, before opposing attacker Taylor Albright added a point for the Pride, 9-4. The Dragons continued to be an offensive threat and registered five unanswered goals. With 13:34 showing on the clock, Maiden tied the game at nine. Hofstra's attack continued to test Drexel's defense. The Pride put three more points on the board. With less than a minute remaining, Kopenhaver scored her third goal of the night. Drexel fell short by just two goals to Hofstra, 12-10.
Kopenhaver set a new career-high with three goals. Norcini also scored a hat trick against the Pride. Maiden had a game-high four points with two goals and assists. Joran and Alissa Watts also scored for the Dragons. Norcini also won four draw controls. Joran is now the 11th Drexel women's lacrosse player to reach 100 career goals. Rudloff and Watts tied their season-bests with two assists. Defensively, Jocelyn Quaile had a team-high with three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Teresha Bradley had seven saves. She now has 106 stops combined.
The squad will return to action on Friday, May 3 in the 2013 CAA Championship semifinals hosted by the top-seed Towson.
