Softball Swept in Doubleheader by Hofstra

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel softball team was shut down in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field, falling 13-0 and 5-0 to Hofstra. Olivia Galati pitched both games for the Pride, throwing a six-inning perfect game in the first game and holding the Dragons to just one hit, an infield single, in the second.
Shelby Taylor took the loss in the first game for Drexel. Tara Konopka was the losing pitcher in Game Two.
Hofstra scored two in the first inning of Game One on the first of two home runs off the bat of Erin Trippi. The Pride would add five runs in the fourth inning, two of which were unearned. Drexel, meanwhile, was unable to solve the All-American Galati, as the first 10 Dragons to come to the plate struck out before Maggy Fermo's sharply-hit line drive to third base with one out in the fourth inning. Overall, Galati had 13 strikeouts in the game, and 10 more in the second game.
The Dragons threatened early in the second game, loading the bases in the first inning off Galati. Fermo became the first Dragon to reach base when she drew a one-out walk. Maddison Timoteo then hit a sharp ground ball to first base that Hofstra first baseman Maggie Hawkins could not handle. Both runners were safe, and the inning continued for Amanda Bachmann. She got Drexel's first hit of the day when her grounder towards the hole was fielded by shortstop Becca Bigler, who had no play. Unfortunately for Drexel, with the bases loaded and two outs, they could not come up with another hit as they left the runners stranded.
After keeping Hofstra off the board for the first three innings, Konopka yielded three runs in the fourth inning, with Bigler connecting for a two-run double. Two innings later, Bigler homered, driving in two more. She had four of the Pride's five RBIs in the game, and six on the day.
Drexel will return to action on Wednesday when they host Army in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
