PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel field hockey team fell to the visiting Hofstra Pride 2-1 in the CAA opener for the Dragons. The Pride got goals from Jonel Boileau and Simca Schoen and Christina Conrad recorded the lone marker for the Dragons on a cool night at Buckley Field.

In the opening minutes Rebecca Werner made two key defensive saves to keep the game scoreless after Jantien Gunter was beaten by two shots in quick succession of one another. Six minutes later, Boileau got Hofstra on the board first in the 13th minute with her tenth of the season.

The Dragons responded quickly when Conrad put home her fifth of the season with an assist from Rachel Sumfest in the 16th minute. Sumfest forced a Hofstra turnover and then found Conrad behind the defense then the Fallston, Maryland native beat Caris Swan in the Pride net in a one-on-one situation. The Dragons had chances later on in the half but Swan turned them all back to keep the score knotted at one heading into the half.

After Sumfest had a shot saved by Swan, Schoen put the Pride ahead for good with her third of the season in the 40th minute. Schoen got a pass from Boileau from the right side and put it home.

The Dragons pulled Gunter to give them another attacker for the last five minutes but were unable to tie the game. Drexel did have a penalty corner with just under three minutes to play but no shot came from the chance.

Drexel returns to action on Sunday when the No. 16 Huskies of Northeastern come to Buckley Field for a 1 p.m. contest.
