Field Hockey Suffers 2-1 Overtime Loss to No. 16 Northeastern

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel field hockey team fell to the visiting No. 16 Northeastern Huskies 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Buckley Field. The loss drops the Dragons to 7-6 on the season and 0-2 in CAA play. The win is the 11th in a row for the Huskies and moves their record to 11-2 and 2-0 in the CAA.

Caroline Judge got the game-winner for the Huskies in overtime after the Dragons had killed off the remaining time on a carry-over penalty from the end of regulation.

Christina Conrad got the Dragons on the board first with her sixth of the season at the 21:55 mark of the first half. Mary Lynam had a chance to get the Dragons some insurance off a Rachel Sumfest corner but Becky Garner in the Huskie goal turned her shot away.

Drexel was able to keep the lead through halftime and for the first six minutes of the second half. In the 41st minute Natalie Stewart tied the score with her fourth of the season.

After not recording a shot in the first 20 minutes of the second half the Dragons had four on goal in a span of 11 minutes from Karleigh Beane, Danielle Grassi and two from Conrad but none found the back of the net. Chloe Pachuilo and Meghan Plank also had chances but they could not get on the end of through passes in close.

Northeastern was able to get a little pressure after the penalty to Pachuilo ended, which led to Judge's goal.

Drexel returns to action next Sunday when they step out of conference to host the Spiders of Richmond at noon.
