BOX SCORE
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Drexel women's lacrosse team dropped its first road game of the 2014 season on Saturday, falling at Colgate, 13-10. The Dragons ceded an early 2-0 lead, and though they trailed by just one at halftime, Drexel could not overcome the host Red Raiders in the second half as the Dragons' record dropped back to .500 at 2-2 on the year.
Joelle Hartke scored four goals for Drexel, including a score at the 18:23 mark in the first half that gave the Dragons what would be their final lead of the day at 4-3. Emily Duffey added three goals and an assist, while Alissa Watts netted a pair. Kelly Palace also scored for Drexel. Megan Ark scored six for the Red Raiders, who won for the first time in four tries in 2014.
Things got off to a good start for the Dragons. Emily Duffey scored twice, ensuring her first multi-goal game of 2014, within the first four minutes of play to give Drexel a 2-0 lead. That slipped away as Monica White scored twice over the next two minutes for Colgate, but Joelle Hartke took an Amanda Norcini feed and finished with 20:35 remaining to put Drexel back on top, 3-2. Megan Ark's first goal of the game would follow just 1:03 later, with Norcini hooking up with Hartke again 1:09 after Ark's goal to leave the Dragons on top.
Colgate kept coming. White and Ark would each add another goal within the next two minutes, giving the Red Raiders a lead they ultimately would not relinquish with 16:41 remaining in the first half. The Dragons did even the score at five with 9:10 to play when Hartke converted a feed from Duffey, but Kallan Murray and Ark each had an answer, leaving Colgate on top by two with 5:29 to play. Drexel would get one more before the break, an unassisted goal by Hartke, to leave itself down just a goal at halftime.
Hartke, who also had a two-goal game against Saint Joseph's, now has 11 points on the season thanks to her four-goal effort on Saturday. That leaves her even with Amanda Norcini for the most points on the team.
Colgate grabbed control with a 5-2 run to open the second half, scoring five times in the first 15 minutes of the period. Kelly Palace and Duffey offered the only respites for the Dragons, with Duffey's third goal of the game coming off a free position shot.
Down 12-8 with just under 12 minutes remaining, Alissa Watts converted another free position shot to pull Drexel back within three. Ark answered three minutes later with her sixth and final goal of the afternoon, giving the Red Raiders a 13-9 lead. Watts would add another free position goal with 6:37 remaining, but the Colgate defense did not allow the Dragons to get another score as they fell for a second-straight game.
Drexel will now head back to Philadelphia, where it will visit crosstown rival Villanova on Wednesday afternoon. That game faces off at 4:00 p.m. at Villanova. The Dragons will return home next Saturday to host UMBC at 1:00 p.m.
