Catonsville, Md. - The Dragons continued competition at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational on Saturday as they defeated Hampton, 7-1. Tara Konopka threw six strikeouts in her seven innings pitched to earn the Dragons their sixth win of the season.

The Dragons struck first in the bottom of the second as Konopka singled through the right side to drive in Jennie Himler for the first run of the game. The Drexel offense added another four the following inning which was kickstarted by Leticia Matsuoka leading off with a single. Vanessa Lighfoot followed with a bunt to advance the run and was safe at first. Shelby Taylor picked up a sacrifice bunt to advance Masuoka to third and Lightfoot to second. Baeley reed added yet another bunt for the Dragons and legged it out to earn a single, which also brought home a run and put Drexel ahead 2-0. Karli Boyer came up next and cleared the bases with a three-run homer.

With Hampton still scoreless, Drexel added on to their 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a single through the left side by Boyer and yet another bunt-for-a-hit, this time from Sylvia Llamas.

Hampton was finally able to pick up a run in the top of the sixth, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit the Dragons had created.

The Dragons will finish out competition at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational tomorrow as they take on Niagara starting at 9:00 a.m. Their game against UMBC that was scheduled for later in the afternoon has been canceled due to impending bad weather.
