PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel softball team fell to UNCW, 10-2, as they finished out a three-game conference series on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks took the series, two games to one after the two teams split the double header on Saturday afternoon. Leticia Matsuoka had two hits in four at-bats, one of which was a home run, while Liana Newton went 2-for-3 and drove in a run early on.

UNCW got on the board first with a run scored in the first inning after a pick-off attempt at third base was overthrown. Drexel tied up the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second as Newton singled to left field to bring home Karli Boyer.

The game didn't remain tied for long, as the Seahawks put up a two-spot in the next inning to take a 3-1 lead. They added three more in the top of the fifth as UNCW's KC Shue sent a three-run home run over the fence to give the Seahawks a 6-1 advantage.

UNCW's scoring effort did not stop there as they added two more in the sixth and then another two runs in the top of the seventh. With one half-inning to redeem themselves, the Dragons set out to put the ball in play. With one out, Matsuoka knocked a solo home run over the fence to give Drexel its second run of the game. The next batter up, Vanessa Lightfoot, got a strong cut on the ball but lined it straight into the glove of the Seahawks' third baseman. UNCW secured a strike-out to end the inning and secure a conference series victory over the Dragons.

Drexel will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to neighboring Saint Joseph's to face the Hawks in a double header starting at 3:00 p.m.
