The Drexel golf team opened the year with a school-record breaking performance. Head Coach Mike Dynda's team shot a two-day total of 570 at the Keenan Invitational hosted by Saint Bonaventure. It was Drexel's lowest final score in a 36-hole event since the school joined the Colonial Athletic Association more than a decade ago.
The Dragons finished third overall at the two-day event in Olean, N.Y. Chris Crawford led the way with a one-over-par 141. He shot even par on the final 18 and tied for seventh overall. Drexel got major contributions from a pair of freshmen. Avery Schneider and Adam Mistretta each made their collegiate debut memorable. Schneider carded a 142, including an even-par 70 in the final round to tie for ninth overall. Mistretta finished with a 143, just three shots over par and tied for 11th place. Sophomore Yoseph Dance added a 149, while Brian Fischer had a 152. For the first time under Dynda, the Dragons did not record a round higher than 72 in the official scoring in either round.
Robert Morris won the Keenan Invitational with a 565. It was the team's second straight win and third in the last four years. Humber College of Ontario was in second place with a 568, just two shots better than Drexel. Robert Morris, Humber and Drexel all broke the tournament record, which stood at 571.
The team's previous record for a 36-hole tournament came back in 2005, when the Dragons recorded a 584 at the Old Dominion/Seascape Invitational. The overall 36-hole record of 558 came during the James Madison Invitational, which was a 54-hole tournament, during October of 2005. During that round Sean Semenetz set a school-record with an eight-under par 63 in the second round.
