PHILADELPHIA – In front of a packed Drexel Pool crowd on Alumni Day the Drexel men's team beat Delaware, 168-132. The women's team fell to both Delaware, 185-114, and Northeastern, 152-147.
Rachel Bernhardt broke her own pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:20.75 in her win, by .43 of second. Bernhardt also won the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:02.69. The time is just .05 slower than her season-best that she swam at the AT&T Winter Nationals.
Kyle Lukens added more wins to his season total on Saturday afternoon. Lukens won the 100-yard freestyle with a 46.02. That time is second-fastest by a Dragon this season in the event. The Plymouth Meeting native also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.33. A third win came in the 200-yard IM with a 1:53.56, which was just under four seconds faster than second place.
Chad Schmidt won the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a 58.11. Schmidt was more than a second clear of the field. It was the same story in the 200-yard with Schmidt taking the win, but this time he was nearly four seconds clear of everyone.
Madison Kramer won the women's 1m diving competition with a 286.30. The score is a season-best for Kramer. The junior also took home first place points versus Northeastern with her second place finish with a 298.10 in the 3m competition.
On the boards for the men, David Sanchez won the 1m with a 291.50. Sanchez was 28 points clear of teammate Simon Carne in second place. In the 3-meter competition, Carne and Sanchez finished third and fourth, respectively, behind two Blue Hens.
The Dragons won both the men's and women's 200-yard medley relay. The women held on to beat Delaware by .22 with a 1:45.77. On the men's side the Dragons were five seconds clear of the field, thanks in large part to strong second and fourth legs from Schmidt and Mike Shaeffer.
Aubrey Murray won the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:53.52. Brianna Bentz took first place points in the 50-yard freestyle versus Northeastern with her third place finish. Gillian Gress also took first place points versus Northeastern in the 200-yard backstroke with her second place finish.
Joel Berryman won the 100-yard backstroke with a 49.61, which was over two seconds faster than the second place finisher. The New Zealander was also second in the 50-yard freestyle. Mike Krohn won the 200y butterfly with a 1:53.87. Ted Taylor was third in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Dragons return to action next weekend in Washington D.C. when they take on Howard. They return home in two weeks to face Georgetown on Senior Day, Jan. 24.
