PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's swimming and diving team defeated the La Salle Explorers on Friday evening from the Drexel Pool in the squad's 2015-16 season opener by a final score of 198-101.
Junior Rachel Bernhardt and the Dragons took the Explorers by storm in the opening meet of the season. Bernhardt won all four of her events which included a new personal and pool record in the 50 free.
Individually, Bernhardt won the 50 free in a time of 23.78. She also finished first in the 100 breast (1:04.70) and 200 breast (2:24.26).
Freshman April Forsthoffer also turned in a big night in her first collegiate event, winning all four events she competed in. Forsthoffer touch the wall of the 200 fly at 2:08.11 for her first individual victory. She then won the 100 fly with a time of 58.90 and the 200 IM at 2:10.79.
Forsthoffer lead off for the Dragons in the first-place 200 medley relay finish that also included Bernhardt, junior Emily Lau and junior Claudia Duguay with a time of 1:46.42, over four seconds faster than the next relay mark.
Junior Aubrey Murray won the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 53.44 and 1:55.20, respectively. The junior also leadoff the Dragons' victory in the 400 free relay to close out the night
Senior diver Madison Kramer won both boards for Drexel, finishing with a score of 248.25 in the 1m and 297.15 in the 3m.
The Drexel women's and men's swimming and diving teams are back at it tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 24 in Baltimore, Md. against host Loyola (Md.) and Lafayette.
