Men's Tennis Drops First Home Match of the Year to Monmouth, 4-0
2/26/2015 3:29:00 PM | Men's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA – Drexel men's tennis fell to Monmouth on Thursday afternoon, 0-4, at the Legacy Center.
The loss is the Dragons' first home loss of the season, as they now hold a 7-1 mark. Drexel sits at 8-4 overall on the year, just five matches away from its first conference match of the season.
"We got better with shot selections, and the energy was better," head coach Mehdi Rhazali said. "We need to play hard on important points such as at deuce of after we get a break to keep the momentum in our favor. We struggled with that a bit today, but we are going to work on it and be ready on Sunday."
Drexel's Alex Fioravante and Kashyap Ashok each challenged their opponents, forcing 5-5 first sets. However each ultimately fell, 7-5, 6-4. Xabier Saavedra took the first set of his match, 6-4, but with the overall dual already decided, his match was stopped at 5-5 in the second.
With the match already in Monmouth's grasp, the teams did not play doubles this afternoon.
The Dragons will return to action on Sunday, March 1 at 11 a.m. when they host St. Francis (Pa.) at the Drexel Armory.
