Men's Tennis Falls 4-0 to Elon in CAA Championship Quarterfinals

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Drexel Tennis' men ran into a tough Elon team Friday evening at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships host by the College of William & Mary, falling to the Phoenix in the quarterfinals, 4-0.
The Dragons finish the season 12-10, the first ever 12-win season in the program's history.
Elon jumped out to an early lead, claiming the doubles point. Alex Fioravante and Xabier Saavedra were stopped by a duo that included CAA Player of the Year, Stefan Fortmann, 8-2, followed by Dan Koehler and Kashyap Ashok falling, 8-5. Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Daniel Hansen forced a tiebreak, but their match remained unfinished as it was no longer necessary in deciding the point.
The Phoenix continued the momentum into singles, taking matches in the first three spots to grab the victory and move into the semifinals. Ashok fell, 6-1, 6-0 in the second position, following by Saavedra's 6-0, 6-0 defeat at No. 3. Ouabdelmoumen fell, 6-1, 6-0 in the top spot, sealing the deal for Elon.
Matches featuring Fioravante, Hamza Laalej and Dan Koehler all remained unfinished after Elon won the race to four points.
Elon will face host William & Mary at 2 p.m. in the semifinals Saturday.
Drexel's women fell to the College of Charleston, 4-0, earlier in the day.
