Dragons Close Regular Season with 11-10 win vs. Towson

Philadelphia - Chris Frederick and Robert Frazee each scored three times as Drexel defeated No. 17 Towson, 11-10, on Senior Day at Vidas Field. The Dragons led by as many as five in the first half before Towson rallied to take the lead in the fourth quarter. However, Frederick's late goal gave the Dragons the lead for good, and with it. the second seed in the upcoming CAA Championships. The Dragons and Tigers will meet once again on Thursday at Fairfield University.
Towson tied the score for the first time in the game at 7-7 with 12:20 to play in the game. With a flag on the field, Ben McCarty dodged around a defender and scored to tie it up. Drexel was called for a penalty and on the ensuing man-up, the Tigers took the lead. Tyler Konen found Max Siskind in front from 10 years away giving the Tigers an 8-7 advantage. Drexel finally got on the board for the first time in the second half when Cole Shafer bounced his second goal of the game at the 10:08 mark. The Dragons got the lead back when Mason Pynn's bounce shot beat Tyler White halfway through the final stanza. The lead didn't last long as Siskind scored his third of the game.
Frederick gave the Dragons the lead for good when he came in from behind the goal and scored at the doorstep. It was his third of the game, giving the junior his first career hat trick. Thirty two seconds later, Belka scored on the run from about 12 yards away gave Drexel a two-goal lead. The Tigers would not go quietly, though, and made it a one-goal game when Justin Mabus scored with 2:21 to play. Towson would get two more possessions as Drexel failed to clear and then committed a turnover. Towson got the final possession with 14 seconds left and called time to set up last play. Drexel's defense held as the Tigers were unable to get a shot off and the Dragons escaped with the win.
Towson came out strong in the second half, controlling play and getting back in the game after trailing 7-2 at intermission. The Tigers' defense held the Dragons off the board the entire quarter and scored four times, cutting the Drexel lead to 7-6. Siskind started the scoring on the man-up. Mike Lynch made it a 7-3 game before McCarty scored two to end the period.
Drexel scored four straight goals to end the first half and take what seemed to be a commanding lead at intermission. Frazee started the run with 11:15 to play in the second quarter. The sophomore ripped home his third goal of the half and his sixth in the last six quarters. A minute later Michael Kay set up Belka making it 5-2. Frederick and Shafer also found the back of the net before halftime giving Drexel the five-goal cushion.

White had 11 saves for the visitors. Jimmy Joe Granito turned aside 12 shots in picking up his seventh win in 10 decisions for the Dragons.
