Golf Heads to Virginia to Play in Liberty Invitational

The Drexel golf team returns to action this weekend at the Liberty Spring Invitational. The Dragons will play a practice round on Thursday before the two-day event begins on Friday morning at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Lynchburg, Va.
Drexel is one of 18 teams in the field and one of three from Philadelphia. La Salle and Villanova will also make the trip to Lynchburg. Other teams in the field include Oklahoma, North Carolina, Radford, Campbell, Loyola (MD), Lipscomb, Columbia, Alabama State, Longwood, High Point, George Mason, Wright State, Northern Illinois, Delaware and Liberty, the host school.
The Dragons are coming off a successful trip to Washington last week at the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Seattle University at Chambers Bay, the home of the 2015 United States Open Championship. Chris Crawford tied for eighth overall, shooting a 218. He was six shots out of first place. Crawford shot one-over-par in each of the first two rounds and finished the final round at 76. Four of the players ahead of him played for Washington, a school that was ranked 10th in the nation entering the tournament. Sophomore Yoseph Dance tied for 15th overall after carding a 223 (74-73-76), while Avery Schneider had a 232 and Adam Mistretta shot 233.
Washington was the overall winner at 854, which was 14 shots over par. Seattle was 24 shots behind the Huskies. TCU, Seton Hall and Missouri-Kansas City also finished ahead of Drexel. The Dragons finished ahead of 12 teams, including Cal-State Fullerton, Boise State, Rutgers and William & Mary.
