SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Drexel softball team was stopped by Western Carolina again on Saturday as the Catamounts defeated the Dragons, 8-0 in five innings on day two of the Tiger Classic.
Western Carolina put its first run of the day on the board in the bottom of the first as they quickly loaded the bases with the first three batters. Sigmon was then able to put the ball in play to drive in a run and reach first as Drexel opted for getting the out at second.
Ellen Scott started the Dragons off in the top of the second with a single down the left field line and then moved up to second as Savanna Johnson drew a walk. A fielder's choice allowed Scott to reach third base and then Jourdan Skirha entered the game to pinch run for her. However, Skirha was caught trying to steal home for the Dragons' second out of the inning. Sharon Zamora struck out to end the inning before Drexel was able to even the score.
In the bottom of the second, Western Carolina broke the game open with a five-run inning and then would go on to add two more runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-0 lead. The Catamounts were able to hold the Dragons scoreless after five innings to put the run-rule in effect and secure a victory.
The Dragons return to action later this afternoon when they travel to face South Carolina State at 3:30 p.m.
