ELON, N.C. – The Drexel softball team fell to Elon by a 9-2 deficit on Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix close out the first conference series of the season with a three-game sweep of the Dragons.
Elon again got out to a strong start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. The Dragons got one back in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly from Savanna Johnson that scored Okoniewski from third, making it a 4-1 game. In the bottom of the inning, however, the Phoenix upped their lead to four runs again as Alaina Hall tripled to right center and then scored on a wild pitch.
Trailing 5-1, the Dragons scored again in the top of the fourth as Jenelle Ladrido sent a two-out single to right field to bring Kristi Uyesaka across the plate, but then Elon responded with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their advantage to 8-2. The Phoenix would tack on a final run in the fifth, creating a deficit that the Dragon would be unable to overcome.
Elon's Abby Barker was credited with the win, while Tara Konopka took the loss for the Dragons and moved to 5-6 on the season.
The Dragons are now 14-13 overall and 0-3 in conference play after the first weekend of CAA action.
Drexel will return to action on Tuesday when they will visit the neighboring Villanova Wildcats for a single non-conference game that is set to begin at 3 p.m.
