UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Following a two-game stint out in California, the Drexel women's lacrosse team (7-3) fell to No. 9 Penn State (8-2) by a final of 14-5 at the Penn State Lacrosse Field to close out nonconference play on Wednesday evening.
Junior Lacey Aghazarian led Drexel with two goals, coming as her 11th and 12th on the campaign. Fellow junior Caroline Thiele notched both a goal and an assist in the loss. Sophomore Nadia Pelham-Lacey scored her 18th goal of the season while freshman Maggie Stetson recorded her third of her career. Pelham-Lacey was held to just the one point, the first time in nearly a full calendar year that she was unable to record multiple points in a game. The last time was last season's CAA opener against William & Mary on Apr. 3, 2015, in which she was held scoreless.
Junior Carlee Ries faced a total of 25 shots on goal from the Nittany Lions, making 11 total saves, a career high.
Penn State led 9-1 at half before outscoring the Dragons 5-4 in the second half for a final score of 14-5.
The Dragons now gear up for conference play, beginning with James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. on Friday, April 8 at 5 p.m.
