PHILADELPHIA - A goal from senior Imani Walker less than two minutes into overtime gave the Drexel women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over the College of Charleston on Sunday. The win helped the Dragons clinch a CAA playoff berth for the second year in a row. This marks the first time in program history the squad has advanced to the conference championships in back-to-back seasons.
The scoreless game headed to overtime despite many strong attacks from both sides. Just one minute and 23 seconds into extra time, senior Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausbøll passed the ball into Walker in the box, who flicked it into the left side of the net for the Dragons' golden goal.
The victory also marked the Drexel defense's eighth shutout of the year. Senior keeper Christiana Ogunsami recorded four saves on the outing, while Charleston's Genevieve Henderson tallied seven. The Dragons' offense out-shot the Cougars, 20-9 on the game.
Drexel improves to 10-5-1 on the season with the win and maintains its second place spot in the conference with a 5-1-1 CAA record. College of Charleston moves to 8-6-1, 3-3-1 CAA.
Drexel's six graduating seniors were honored prior to the game as a part of Senior Day. Madison Dunn, Heidi Gspurning, Hauch-Fausbøll, Ogunsami, Kylie Strong, and Walker were recognized for their achievements over the course of their careers as Dragons.
The Dragons will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 19 as they visit James Madison on the road in a game that is set for 7 p.m. Drexel will then close out its regular-season schedule on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Elon. The Dragons and Phoenix are slated to begin at 1 p.m
