Softball Falls to UNCW in Series Finale, 4-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Drexel softball team dropped the final game of the opening weekend of conference play to UNCW by a 4-1 deficit. With this, UNCW completed a three-game sweep of the Dragons in both teams' first match-up of CAA play this season.
The Dragons got on the board early, scoring their lone run of the game in the top of the first inning. Taylor Kent hit an infield single with one out and stole second, which put her in scoring position when Hannah Walker came to the plate. Walker singled into left field, which brought Kent around to score and give the Dragons a 1-0 advantage, their first of the weekend.
The Seahawks were quick to retaliate, scoring two runs off of two hits in the bottom of the first. They added another run in the second as Kali Jones scored on a squeeze bunt from Kelsey Bryan. UNCW would maintain a 3-1 lead into the the fifth when they extended their advantage with a run off an RBI single from Rachel Willis. The Seahawks would hold off the Dragons' offense through the remaining two innings to go on to a 4-1 victory and a sweep of the weekend's games.
The Seahawks outhit the Dragons, 10-3 on the outing. UNCW's Peyton Jordan picked up her 10th win of the season, while Tara Konopka moves to 3-4 on the year with the loss.
With the loss, the Dragons move to 4-10 overall and start conference play with an 0-3 record. UNCW improves to 21-6-1, 3-0 CAA.
The Dragons will return to action on Tuesday as they will visit N.C. Central for a doubleheader to round out their North Carolina road trip before returning to Philadelphia. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
