PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 overtime win over Northeastern on Saturday evening. Sebastien Cabral scored the game-winner with 4:39 to play in the first overtime period to give the Dragons their second win of the season.
The Dragons and Huskies were scoreless as the game went to halftime. It was just under six minutes into the second half that Drexel broke the draw off a 2-on-1 effort from Dakota Peterson and Xavier Bou Hernandez. Hernandez pulled Northeastern's Jonathan Thuresson out of the net and then tapped it over to Peterson who put the ball into an open goal.
The Dragons maintained their 1-0 advantage for the majority of the second half. Northeastern was able to get on the board, however, in the 88th minute as Alec Supinski found a loose ball in the box after a corner kick and put it past Jacob Jordan to even the score with just over two minutes to play in regulation.
The Drexel defense was able to hold off Northeastern and force overtime. In the 96th minute, Mathias Ebbesen crossed the ball into Cabral in the box who was able to tap it in and walk away with a victory for the Dragons.
Northeastern outshot the Dragons, 20-11 on the outing. Drexel's Jordan recorded eight saves on the day while Northeastern's Thuresson tallied four.
The win helps the Dragons improve to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 against conference opponents. The Huskies move to 2-6-2, 1-2-1 CAA with the loss.
The Dragons will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 3 when they will head across town to visit Temple in a game that is slated for 7 p.m.
