MACON, Ga. - After going ahead 3-1 in the top half of the sixth inning, torrential downpour stopped the game and reverted the score back to 1-1 as the Drexel softball team and the Akron Zips tied Sunday afternoon to close out play at Mercer's Black and Orange Challenge. Drexel closed the weekend with a 1-3-1 record.

The Dragons threatened in the first inning, getting two runners on, but ultimately could not plate a run. However, Drexel would end up striking first getting one in the second on Hannah Walker's solo shot to left field. After the Dragons threatened with two runners on base again in the fourth, the Zips broke through in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer of their own off the bat of cleanup hitter Maddie Clowdus.

The game went into the sixth inning tied, 1-1. Drexel scored twice in the top half of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead, but the expected downpour finally reared its ugly head in the bottom half and the game was called. That would revert the score back to the 1-1 tie at the end of the fifth as the game ultimately ended in a tie.

Katie Haley took the no-decision for the Dragons, giving up just one run on two hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings of work. Kayla Kmett struggled to find the strike zone for the Zips, walking five over 3 1/3 innings, although the Dragons could only break through for one run. Walker finished the day going 2 for 2 with the home run, as she finished the weekend going 5 for 11 from the plate.

The Dragons return to action next weekend with five games at the Stetson Tournament in DeLand, Fla. on March 2-4.
