DELAND, Fla. – The Drexel softball team used a six-run third inning to edge the Stetson Hatters, 9-8, on Friday evening at the Patricia Wilson Field in DeLand, Fla.

After a quick first inning, Taylor Lee wasted no time putting the Dragons on the board and set the tone with her second homer of the day.

Drexel then caught fire with a six-run third inning and never looked back. Holly Bridgeman hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners before Linda Rush sliced a single through center field to plate Taylor Kent and ignite the rally. Kristi DiMeo then hit a single up the right field to score Elena Woulfe and Hannah Walker hit a RBI single down the right line to push a third run across the plate. Reilly Jo Swanson kept the offense rolling with a two-run single and Kent closed out the scoring with a RBI single.

The game, however, would not end without drama as Stetson clawed back with a seven-run sixth inning. The Hatters started off the inning with a two-run single and a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit down to four. A walk then forced a sixth run and Lewis reached on a fielder's choice for two more to make it a one-run game.

In the circle, Katie Haley fanned the next two batters and caused an out in the bottom of the seventh to quickly close out the game and secure the 9-8 victory for the Dragons. The senior hurled a complete game and was credited with the win. She improved her record to 1-1 after yielding six hits and six runs while striking out five.

Drexel will return to action on Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. when it takes on Bethune-Cookman in DeLand, Fla.
