PHILADELPHIA – Taylor Kent had a perfect appearance at the plate for the second day in a row, however, the Drexel softball team fell short as it was dealt a 7-4 loss against Penn on Wednesday afternoon.
After a single and a walk got runners on base, Penn got on the board first thanks to a fielder's choice, giving the Quakers a 1-0 edge.
An RBI double then extended Penn's lead to two in the second before a sacrifice fly off the bat of Linda Rush drove in Reilly Jo Swanson to cut the deficit in half in the third.
The Quakers responded with a three-run third using a homer and a two-run double to jump out to a 5-1 advantage. The Dragons, though, did not falter as they took back three in the following frame with back-to-back RBI singles from Taylor Kent, Rush and Kristi DiMeo to put the Dragons within one.
Despite the relentless efforts, Drexel's comeback fell short as the Quakers tacked on two more in the fifth to secure a 7-4 victory against the Dragons.
Kent led the Dragons going 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored while Kristi DiMeo went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Katie Haley suffered the loss while allowing eight hits and five runs with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.
The Dragons will regroup and return to action on Thursday, April 12 when it hosts Coppin State for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
