PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team fell short to UNCW, 9-8, in the final game of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Drexel Softball Field.

After a scoreless two innings, the Dragons struck first when Jenelle Ladrido smacked a double to left to plate Riley Jo Swanson. Ladrido was then driven in by a fielder's choice to put the Dragons ahead 2-0 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth inning, Drexel extended its lead to 6-0 using a Taylor Kent single and a fielder's choice to advance three runners home.

The Seahawks got a run back in the fifth, but Drexel responded with three in the bottom of the inning to pad its lead, 9-1. After Swanson reached on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to force a run across, Elena Woulfe and Megan Trivelpiece both scored using a UNCW fielding error.

Down by eight, the Seahawks bats came alive as they used a seven-run sixth inning, including two homers and a double, to execute a comeback and ultimately win the game.

Brooklyn Daly suffered the loss for the Dragons as she allowed eight runs and six hits in 5.0 innings of work. With the loss, Daly's record falls to 4-4.

The Dragons will return to action on Tuesday, April 17 when they travel to Saint Peter's for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
