PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's lacrosse team could not cap its Senior Day with a victory as the Dragons fell to Elon on Sunday, 18-13. The game was decided by a pair of Elon runs midway through the first half and early in the second that created some space in an otherwise tightly-played contest.

Elon scored four straight after the score was tied at three to build a 7-3 edge, taking a lead the Phoenix would not relinquish. After the Dragons made it a 9-6 game with the first score of the second half, the Phoenix responded with five straight to put the game out of reach.

Courtney Dietzel followed up her career-best six goals on Friday night with five on Sunday, adding four draw controls in the losing effort. Maggie Stetson put together her second hat trick in the last three games with four draws of her own, while Cassidy Delaney and Alex Beilman each scored a pair. For Beilman, one of the Dragons' two seniors, the goals were her 10th and 11th of the year to lock up her second-consecutive double-digit scoring season. Colleen Grady added a goal and four assists, while Karson Harris had two helpers and four draw controls and Lucy Schneidereith added one assist.

Molly Savage, the Dragons' other senior class member, posted a draw control and a ground ball in her final appearance at Vidas Field. Danielle Senour caused a pair of turnovers and Zoe Bennett stopped seven shots while Sigourney Heerink, who came on in relief, managed one save.

Dietzel and Stetson scored all five of Drexel's first-half goals, with Dietzel giving the Dragons the game's first goal nearly six minutes into the action off a pass from Delaney. After the Phoenix tied the score, Stetson finished a Grady feed to put Drexel ahead 2-1, which would prove to be its final lead of the afternoon.

Stetson scored again, this time converting a pass from Harris, to knot the score at three before the Phoenix rattled off its four consecutive goals to grab the lead. A pair of Dietzel scores ended that run, but Elon took a 9-5 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Delaney netted the first goal of the second half to pull the Dragons back within three, but Elon responded with five straight to seize a commanding 14-6 edge less than eight minutes into the second half.

The Dragons had one last push, scoring the next three goals over the course of seven minutes. Dietzel, Beilman and Grady were the goal-scorers, making it a 14-9 game with 13:59 to play. The deficit remained five with 9:40 remaining after the teams traded goals, but three straight for Elon ended any hopes of a Drexel comeback.

Drexel will close out its regular season on Friday evening when the Dragons visit Delaware for a 5 p.m. game. A win would leave Drexel 2-4 in the league, tied with Hofstra and Delaware for fourth place. Tiebreakers to determine which team would earn the No. 4 seed to the upcoming CAA Championships in that case will be made available as the league announces them.
