Softball Upended by Towson

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was dealt a 9-1 loss in six innings against Towson on Saturday afternoon at the Vidas Athletic Complex.
Towson jumped out to an early 6-0 lead heading into the third inning and never looked back as they run-ruled the Dragons in the sixth frame. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning by using two RBI doubles, a single and a sacrifice fly before tacking on one more in the second with a bases-loaded walk.
With Devon Grippe gaining control in the circle, the Dragons were able to blank Towson for the next three innings before adding on a run of their own in the fifth with a Kristi DiMeo home run.
Towson, however, responded with three more using a groundout, a double and a single to run-rule the Dragons and take the series.
DiMeo went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run for the Dragon's only run of the day. Katie Haley suffered the loss as she allowed four runs and three hits in the first inning of play.
Drexel will regroup and return to action on Tuesday, April 10 when it hosts Howard for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
