Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Charleston
9/29/2018 9:37:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Drexel men's soccer team is still in search of its first goal of this three-game road trip, but the Dragons got a much-needed point on the road at the College of Charleston on Saturday, playing the Cougars to a scoreless draw. The match gives Drexel four points in Colonial Athletic Association action as they got their first conference point of the year away from Vidas Field.
Despite the lack of scoring, the game saw plenty of offensive activity, with the Dragons outshooting Charleston 16-11. Both teams put six shots on net, with Dragons keeper Stephen Kopsachilis and his counterpart Cameron Smith each saving all six that came their way. Mathias Ebbesen took a game-high five shots with Kwesi Allen right behind him with four. Chris Donovan saw both of his attempts saved by Smith, 30 seconds apart in the 89th minute just before the end of regulation. Chris Carroll also had a shot on goal in the last two minutes of regulation, adding to the late frenzy.
Both teams had looks in overtime, including a Francisco Rodrigues da Palma try from eight yards out that curled just wide of the far post midway through the second extra period. That came seconds after a Kopsachilis save of a Cornell Holland poke that tested the redshirt-freshman keeper low.
Drexel has now played a pair of draws this season. Both have come on the road and both have been 0-0 ties. The Dragons also played a scoreless draw at Penn on Sept. 3.
The Dragons will now return to non-conference action for their next match as they take on Rutgers in Piscataway on Tuesday evening. That game kicks off at 7 p.m.
