PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University field hockey team (4-12, 2-3 CAA) dropped its regular-season home finale to the No. 12 Delaware Blue Hens (12-3, 4-0 CAA) by a final of 7-0 from Buckley Field on senior day.
The game, originally slated for noon, was delayed by two and a half hours after rain fell heavily and steadily in West Philadelphia.
Before the contest, Drexel honored its four seniors: Katie Bagdon, Tess Bernheimer, Ally Chapis and Tess Horan.
Delaware started the scoring early with a goal in the fifth minute. Goals in the 17th and 27th minutes gave the Blue Hens a 3-0 edge at halftime.
The No. 12 ranked team added four second half goals to win 7-0.
Three of Delaware's goal came on rebounds after saves from Drexel freshman goalkeeper Megan Hadfield, who made six stops on the day. The Blue Hens were also effective at tipping with two goals redirected into the cage.
Sophomore Puk Thewessen led Drexel with three shots including two on goal.
