PHILADELPHIA – Eight Drexel wrestlers placed in the top-eight of their respective weight classes at the 2019 Keystone Classic, hosted by Penn, on Sunday. Of those eight, six Dragons reached the podium as one of the six-best wrestlers in their bracket.

Chandler Olson, Julian Flores, Vincent Foggia, Parker Kropman, Ebed Jarrell, Michael O'Malley, Bryan McLaughlin and Sean O'Malley all placed for the Dragons. Jarrell was Drexel's highest finisher with a silver medal at 165 pounds. Michael O'Malley placed third at 174 pounds, and Kropman (157 pounds), McLaughlin (197 pounds) and Sean O'Malley (heavyweight) finished fourth.

Jarrell, the top seed at 165 pounds cruised to the championship match. He opened in the round of 16 with a first-period pin over Penn's Josh Swanson before a 6-3 decision against Rider's Georgio Poullas in the quarters. Another fall in the semifinals propelled Jarrell into the gold-medal match, where he fell to No. 31 ranked Philip Conigliaro of Harvard.

Michael O'Malley, the third seed in the 174-pound bracket, scored a quarterfinal decision against Thomas Flitz of Appalachian State before losing via decision to No. 29 Neal Richards of VMI in the semifinals. Dropping to the consolation semifinals, he authored a statement victory, pinning Penn's Neil Antrassian in just 15 seconds, then received third place via a medical forfeit in the third-place match.

Kropman, the bracket's fifth seed, reached the quarterfinals then won three times in the consolation bracket to place fourth. After a round of 32 bye, he pinned Sacred Heart's Brian Kelly in 1:26 before dropping a 10-3 decision to No. 24 Matt Zovstoski of Appalachian State. Once in the consolation bracket, Kropman scored a 23-8 technical fall against Rider's Quentin Milliken and reached the consolation semifinals on a forfeit. The final two matches of the night for Kropman went beyond the seven minutes. He outlasted No. 12 Justin McCoy from Virginia with an 11-9 win in sudden victory. He then fell to seventh-ranked Anthony Artalona of Penn in double overtime, 2-1.

Third-seeded McLaughlin wrestled back to a fourth-place result after an opening loss in the round of 16. He collected a pair of first-period pins against seeded foes to reach the consolation quarterfinals. Once there, he advanced to the consolation semis with a 6-4 decision then topped Duke's Vincent Baker by an 8-5 decision to reach the third-place match, where he was pinned with just two seconds remaining in the bout.

Sean O'Malley lost twice to No. 23 Yaraslau Slavikouski, the No. 2 seed out of Harvard. The first meeting between the grapplers came in the quarterfinals, where Slavikouski won 5-2. O'Malley won three-straight narrow decisions to reach the third-place match, where Slavikouski topped him by an 8-4 decision.

Unseeded Vincent Foggia hit the six-match limit before his fifth-place match with Rider's Travis Layton. That bout was deemed no contest as Layton was also at the limit. The two shared fifth-place honors. Foggia reached the quarterfinals on a 15-0 technical fall over Adrian Nelson of Sacred Heart before suffering a major decision loss. He topped eighth-seeded Job Chishko from VMI, 3-0, to reach the consolation quarterfinals, where he suffered another major decision loss.

The host Quakers won the team competition with 152.5 points, narrowly edging out second-place Rider. Appalachian State (143.5), Virginia (139) and Drexel (105) rounded out the top five.

Drexel hosts No. 12 Pittsburgh on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for Superhero Day. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite superheroes, and there will be a costume contest at halftime. Additionally, there will be a post-match autograph session with the Dragons.
