Wrestling Clinches Three NCAA Berths, Four Top-8 Finishes at EIWA Championships

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Drexel wrestling team finished up at the 115th Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships on Saturday. Three Dragons earned automatic NCAA bids while four placed at the conference championships.
Redshirt junior Ebed Jarrell (165), redshirt senior Stephen Loiseau (197) and redshirt senior Joey Goodhart (HWT) all finished high enough to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament on March 21-23 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Goodhart and Loiseau both placed third while Jarrell came in fourth.
Freshman Antonio Mininno (125) was the fourth Dragon to place as he claimed eighth.

NCAA ALLOCATIONS FOR EIWA
The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association earned a total of 47 automatic spots for the NCAA Tournament, the third most among all eight DI leagues. The EIWA gets four at 125 pounds, four at 133 pounds, three at 141 pounds, five at 149 pounds, six at 157 pounds, four at 165 pounds, six at 184 pounds, six at 197 pounds and four at heavyweight.
JOEY GOODHART – HWT – THIRD PLACE – NCAA AQ
With five wins on the weekend, Goodhart eclipsed 100 career wins, finishing the tournament with 101 victories in his four-year career to place him alone in eighth on Drexel's all-time leaderboard. After a 2-1 showing on Friday, the Drexel senior went 3-0 on Saturday to claim third place at the EIWA Championships. #2-seeded Goodhart opened Saturday with a 7-2 decision against Cornell's #3-seeded Jeramy Sweany before besting Army's #4-seeded Ben Sullivan in the consolation semifinals with a 5-3 decision. In the third-place bout, Goodhart outlasted Franklin & Marshall's #7-seeded Antonio Pelusi in a 4-2 decision. Goodhart had an early takedown against Pelusi and added an escape and the riding time point in the third period to win.
STEPHEN LOISEAU – 197 – THIRD PLACE – NCAA AQ
Loiseau began Saturday against #1-seeded 197-pounder Patrick Brucki of Princeton in the championship semifinals. The two met a couple weeks when the Dragons hosted Princeton at the DAC. On Saturday, Brucki won 11-3 major decision to push the Drexel senior into the consolation semifinals against #7-seeded John Jakobsen of Lehigh. Loiseau defeated the Mountain Hawk a 13-3 major decision. After a scoreless first, Loiseau notched two four-point nearfalls in the second period and another in the third for the win. In the third-place bout, Loiseau came out on top of Navy's #5-seeded Josh Roetman. Loiseau scored a reversal in the second and added the riding time point in the third to win the 3-0 decision.
EBED JARRELL – 165 – FOURTH PLACE – NCAA AQ
After receiving a first-round bye and winning his first bout by a 10-0 major decision on Friday, #1-seeded Jarrell went up against Army's #4-seeded Cael McCormick on Saturday morning in the championship semifinals. McCormick went up with two first-period takedowns as he pulled out the 11-8 decision. Jarrell had six escapes and a takedown in the loss to send him to the consolation bracket. There he faced #2-seeded Jonathan Viruet of Brown in the consolation semifinals. Jarrell fell behind 4-1 after the first period as Viruet had two takedowns. But the junior evened the score with an escape and takedown in the third. Vireut grabbed a quick third-period escape to go back up before Jarrell notched his second takedown for the 6-5 decision win. In the third-place bout, #5-seeded Gordon Wolf bested Jarrell in a high-scoring 13-11 decision. Jarrell had four takedowns in the loss.
ANTONIO MININNO – 125 – EIGHTH PLACE
After going 2-1 on Friday to continue wrestling on Saturday, the unseeded freshman dropped his two bouts on the final day to finish in eighth place at the conference championships. He faced #7-seeded Gage Curry of American in his first bout as Curry won by a 4-3 decision. Mininno recorded three escapes in the loss, one in each period. The freshman was then edged out by Binghamton's #5-seeded Audey Ashkar in a 3-2 decision. Trailing 1-0 going into the third, Mininno evened the score with an escape but a takedown by Ashkar put him up 3-1. With 33 seconds left, Mininno got within one with another escape but could not pull out the comeback.
